アメリカで道を尋ねる時は、自分の行きたい目的地をはっきり相手に伝える事が大事です。
次に、相手に丁寧に、「失礼ですが…」とか、「すみませんが…」と言う言葉を述べてから尋ねると、相手も親切に教えてくれる場合が多いです。
それでは尋ねる側と、答える側の両方の表現を勉強しましょう。
道を尋ねる側の表現：
I am sorry to bother you, but where is the post office?
（すみませんが、郵便局はどこですか）
Excuse me. Is there a Japanese restaurant near here?
（すみませんが、この近くに日本のレストランはありますか）
I beg your pardon. Could you please tell me how to get to Grand Hotel?

Pardon me. Is the train station far from here?

Is it within walking distance from here?
（それはここから歩ける距離ですか）
How many minutes by walking?

答える側の表現：
Where are you going?
(どこへ行くのですか)
Go straight down this street for about three blocks.
(約3ブロックほどこの通りをまっすぐ行ってください)
Turn right at the second corner.
(2つ目の角を右に曲がってください)
It's on your left.
(それはあなたの左手にあります)
It's about two blocks away.
(それは約2ブロックほどです)
It's the third building on the right.
(それは右手の3番目のビルです)
It'll take you about ten minutes.
(それは約10分ぐらいかかります。)
I suggest you take a taxi.
